Your Council
Langport Town Council consists of 11 councillors, who are elected for a term of office of 4 years. They represent the residents of the Parish of Langport. The residents of the Parish of Huish Episcopi are represented by their own Parish Council.
Meetings are normally held on the first Tuesday of the month, at 7.30 p.m, in the ground floor meeting room of Langport Town Hall, Bow street. Occasionally there is a need, for administrative reasons, to change the date of the monthly meeting. When this does happen the date will be shown on the Meeting Notice in a distinctive colour.
With the exception of the Annual Town Council Meeting, which is always the May meeting, all Town Council Meetings start with a Public Question Time,of 15 minutes, at the beginning of every meeting during which members of the public are allowed to raise any issue. No decisions can be made on items raised during this time, unless the item is already on the agenda, but it will be added to the following months agenda if appropriate.
At the Annual Town Council Meeting there is certain business that has to be conducted, by law, before anything else takes place. At this meeting the Public Question Time will take place immediately after the statutory business has been conducted.
The Council also organises the Annual Parish Assembly which takes place between 1st March and 1st June (inclusive) in any year. This is NOT a Town Council meeting but is a meeting at which residents are free to raise any topic that they wish. The meeting normally includes an annual report from the Council Chairman.
